Welcome to the parents’ and guardians area. We have put together the information below to help you support your son or daughter while they study with us. If you have any further questions you can call us anytime from 09:00 to 16:30 or email enquiries@sports.mpct.co.uk
You will need to fill in our application form and a member of our team will be in contact with you (by phone or email) to arrange an appointment, open day or taster day at your local Military Preparation College. They will talk you through what forms you need to complete in preparation for your appointment and they will be able to answer any questions you have.
If you are aged 16-18 and in full or part-time training you could be entitled to financial support to help pay for essential education-related costs such as course equipment, lunch or transport to and from college.
You could get a bursary of up to £1,200 per year. For more information on the Bursary Fund, click here
You may be entitled to receive up to £40.00 per week for up to 30 weeks.
The training is free because it is part funded by the Education Funding Agency.
You may be eligible to claim financial support (through the 16 – 18 Bursary Fund). The Bursary Fund (if you are eligible) is to provide help if you struggle with costs that may affect your learning.
If eligible for the Bursary Fund, you are also eligible to free meals whilst in learning with the college. You will receive the daily allowance for each day attended.
Students may be eligible if they meet the criteria. Once you are given an agreed start date by the Learner Support Team, an eligibility survey will be sent to the next of kin address given at interview. This will determine whether the eligibility criteria may be met.
Once the eligibility survey has been completed, it will determine whether you meet the eligibility criteria. If this is met, you will be sent the Financial Support application form which will need to be digitally completed with evidence attached. Within this form will be the uniform order and bank details request. Once completed this will be processed by the Learner Support Team within our 3-day target.
If you are eligible for the bursary, you will be entitled to claim any costs that pay for items relevant to the course – up to a maximum of £1,200 each year. For example, travel (between home and college) and any money spent on kit and equipment essential to complete the course. Each day you are in attendance and have a meal, you will receive £2.41 per day.
If you are eligible for the bursary – yes. Funding claimed will be paid directly into your bank account a week in arrears.

The college courses operate a roll on-roll off enrolment, so young people can join anytime of the year so long as they are aged 16 – 18, have left school and are unemployed and not in formal training or education.
Once on a course in Wales, they will receive £30 – £50 a week, including holidays
They will need to fill in our application form, a member of our team will be in contact with them (by phone or email). Your son/daughter must also visit their local Careers Wales advisor. They will be given a referral form by the advisor and they will need this before they can start with us. They must also have their National Insurance number as they can’t start a course at MPCT without it.
The training is free, due to the course being partly funded by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government.
All students will receive a training allowance between £30 – £50 to assist with any costs.
All students are entitled to money to offset the cost of daily travel. Students can claim back up to 90% of their travel costs.
Yes, for the training allowance and any travel support costs to be paid directly to them.
The most important thing your son/daughter will need is their National Insurance number as they won’t be able to start without it. Don’t forget they will also need to bring a copy of or the original evidence of their date of birth, current home address and confirmation that they have the right to live and work in the UK.
