Justin Edwards lives in a small town in West Wales with his wife and two children. Justin joined the Armed forces in 1993 where he served with the Royal Regiment of Wales for 9 exciting and varied years with Royal Regiment of Wales, which included a number of postings including; Northern Ireland on Operation BANNER, London on public duties and Germany in an armoured infantry role before being posted to the Infantry Training Centre Catterick as a Physical Training Instructor training adult recruits. During Justin’s Military career, he was fortunate to have gained a broad range of experience in roles such as foot soldiering, peacekeeping, covert surveillance, reconnaissance and armoured infantry. Justin is also a keen sportsman and was fortunate enough to not only represent Royal Regiment of Wales but represented the Army and Combined Services teams at under 21 level.
In 2003, Justin became a serving Police Officer within Dyfed Powys Police where he worked within a number of specialist departments such as Roads Policing and Armed Response, policing the whole of South Wales.
Justin then made a career change into the Private Security industry and worked for a number of years as a Close Protection Officer and Operations Manager on a number of private and government contracts in hostile environments.
In 2015, Justin joined MPCT as an instructor at Bridgend College. In 2016, Justin was promoted and given the opportunity of becoming the Centre Manager of Swansea MPCT. This position allowed him the opportunity to develop his leadership skills and a display a passion of ensuring each and every learner had a clear pathway from being part of the college. Justin tirelessly searched for outside partnerships with the same vison and ethos as MPCT that could provide direction and support. In 2018, Justin was once again promoted to Regional Operations Manager of Wales - this position enables him to search out new partnerships and agencies that may or may not be aware of the college and the Learners that we teach.
Justin is a keen cyclist and is currently training to take part in this year’s Ironman Wales which consists of a 2.4 mile swim (3.9km), 112 mile cycle (180km) and a 26.2 mile (42.2km) run.
During my time in the Welsh Guards I served at Pirbright, London, U.S.A., Canada, Aldershot and Northern Ireland.
After leaving the Guards I worked abroad for four years, a year in Spain and three years in Italy as a holiday rep which mainly involved organising fun events and activities for guests.
Once I settled back in the UK I worked in the leisure industry as a fitness instructor and took many different exercise classes.
I started working for the Military college in Cardiff in March 2009 since I have worked for the company I have been put on many different courses which has allowed me to deliver a wide range of different classes. I proud of the fact I have helped many learners progress in to the Military, I still keep in touch with past learners many from over three years ago. It’s really rewarding to see learners coming back in there uniform. I currently work in Bridgend as a Lead Instructor. I have been here since the centre opened last year. I enjoyed setting up the College from scratch and pleased with how the centre has developed. The centre is going from strength to strength and hope this continues for many years to come.
Mike's life at MPCT started way back in 1999 where he started as a student on the first ever APC (Army Perpetration Course) as it was known then. He couldn’t join the Army at the time as he had a fixed brace on, so Mike then went on to complete the next two courses.
Mike finally passed selection and went to ATC Litchfield for basic training, and then ITC Catterick for second phase training. After Mike passed out of training, he joined up with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in Northern Ireland for a six month tour.
On return from Ireland he moved barracks from Thernhill to Aldershot. Whilst at Aldershot he did several exercises - Portsmouth, Breacon, Warminster, Salisbury, Kenya, Cyprus and Canada.
Whilst in Canada Mike completed his NCO course to pick up his L/Cpl stripe. After he came back from Canada he spent a couple of months at home training (search, mine sweeping, urban training) and then deployed for a six and a half month tour of Iraq. After he came back from Iraq he spent a few months in camp and then got out due to time served.
Mike started back with MPCT as a volunteer in Cardiff before he was offered the job in Newport. After six months in Newport Mike transferred to Cardiff. After a few years in Cardiff he took the opportunity to go back to Newport, to Raglan barracks, to help set up the new Newport centre.
He was then lucky enough to be given the lead instructor job back at Cardiff (where it all began for him way back in 1999) - this is where you can find him now busy at work.
Mike is very proud & privileged to return to MPCT as an instructor and he really loves his job.
Steven joined the army in June 2002 after completing a 13 week Army Preparation course in Gorseinon College, Swansea.
After completing training at ITC Catterick he joined his battalion, The Royal Regiment of Wales based in Paderborn Germany.
Steven then deployed on his first operational tour, Op Telic 3 with B (Rorke's Drift) Coy and went on to complete a further 2 operational tours of Iraq and 1 of Afghanistan.
Steven left the army in 2012 and joined the army reserve shortly after, where he worked in the recruitment, retention, mentoring and training team.
Hannah completed her PGCE in Further Education majoring in Physical education. She has worked with ACT Training as an Essential Skills Tutor, and with Educ8 Training as a Customer Account Manager. Overall Hannah has 9 year’s experience in education, whether directly teaching or helping 16-19 year olds get back into education or employment.
Hannah has gained Senior International Caps for Wales in Rugby which she is very proud of. Hannah is also a Junior British Champion in Kyokoshinkai Karate.
After attending School and completing my exams I immediately started to pursue a career in the Army. Firstly I attended the Army Preparation Course situated in Gorseinon College in Swansea to work on my fitness and confidence.
February 2006 I joined the QDG and embarked on my military career which lasted 12years. I Deployed on three operational tours of Afghanistan carrying out different roles on each occasion. During my last tour I was an Advisor Mentor for the Regional Corps Battle School guiding Afghan Instructors within the Weapons Division.
My final posting within the military was at the Royal Armoured Corps Training Regiment teaching JNCOs as part of their Career Leadership and Management Course. it was during these later phases of my military career I settled on teaching a career I wanted to pursue full time.
I am Cardiff born and raised, I left college late 2013 where I was studying aeronautical engineering. From here I applied for the British Army as it was an ambition I had in the back of my mind and took the plunge! January 2014 is when I went to phase 1 training in Pirbright and then to my phase 2 training in Bovington. Here I trained to become a formation reconnaissance soldier and expanded my mechanical knowledge further by gaining qualifications in armoured vehicle repair and maintenance.
Once I passed out of training I joined my regiment 1st The Queens Dragoon Guards in Paderborn, Germany. From here I did exercises in Bavaria and adventure training in the French Alps. Shortly after this my regiment moved back to the UK and settled into our new home in Robertson Barracks, Norfolk. As this was a quiet period I took advantage and did my winter mountain leader course in the Scottish Cairngorms. Once the regiment was set up again we deployed to Kenya, Sierra Leonne where I was part of anti-poaching security teams, California and operational tours to Poland on Operation Cabrit 3.
In my time spent in the army I reached the substantive rank of Lance Corporal, I applied myself to any course that was offered which led to me being offered a team leader posting in crick Howell as head of an outreach team. Here I really enjoyed engaging with the younger generation and guiding applicants through the process of joining the Army.
Upon leaving the Army in 2020 I wanted to pursuit my passion for strength training and strongman, so I studied my level 4 Nutrition course. Since completing this I have helped numerous amateur athletes get ready for sporting events as well as helping people make life style changes. I am also currently in training for upcoming strongman events in 2022!
When I seen the advert for MPCT it ticked all the boxes of what I wanted out of a job, it allows me to teach and spread my knowledge of how the current Army works. I hope to spend many years with MPCT!
